In recent months we have seen an uprising of pop princesses, one of the most notable ones being Chappell Roan, whose real name is Kayligh Amstutz.
Though she has been making music since 2014, she didn’t blow up until the release of her first studio album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
From her sad songs such as ‘Coffee’ and ‘Kaleidoscope’ to complete bangers such as ‘Femininomenon’ and ‘HOT TO GO’ it’s easy to see why so many people find this record appealing. It’s not hard to see that Chappell has a talent for music not just because of her voice but also for her weird beats that go together not only musically but aesthetically too.
Chappell is not just a singer but a whole experience. The clips of her on tour remind me a lot of today’s pop girls but the way she dresses and acts on stage is a whole different story. Her presence on stage along with her in full drag has made for some iconic moments.
For all these reasons I think Chappell Roan is truly your favorite artist’s favorite artist as well as the artist of our generation.
Not only that but she is one of many new artists creating interesting aesthetics with their looks, music, production, and concerts. This new wave of performers put their all into their craft. When you compare this to years past where doing less made artists more cool, it’s very refreshing. Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, and Charli XCX are other artists I would put in this category. They create worlds with their music and always leave listeners wanting more.
