When someone says Valentine’s Day, often the first thing that comes to mind is some cheesy romance moments with your lover but it is so much more than that. Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate all of your loved ones, not just your significant other. Galentine’s Day has become increasingly popular over the recent years, often celebrated just the day before Valentine’s Day. Galentine’s Day is known for only celebrating with your friends. Although it is important to appreciate your friends, you can do that any other day of the year. Whereas Valentine’s Day is only once a year.
As we know it’s a day to celebrate everyone in your life you love, it is also important to know the history behind the holiday and why we celebrate it. Valentine’s Day has been around for more than 700 years. Valentine’s Day began with the Roman Catholic church when two saints were executed on February 14 but the holiday continued to grow into something more over the centuries. Most people think that Valentine’s Day is only for couples but that is all wrong and it often doesn’t get the appreciation it deserves. Most don’t see or get to understand the real meaning behind it all. Everyone needs to stop thinking you need a partner to celebrate Valentine’s Day but use it as a day to appreciate everyone who has been there for you and the ones you love most and really use it as a time to show them.
Galentine’s Day is not a real holiday and it is taking place the day before Valentine’s Day. People forget that you don’t only need to celebrate with a partner but you can also celebrate it by appreciating your friends and family. Galentine’s Day takes away the deeper meaning that Valentine’s Day is supposed to have. Yes, it is fun to hang out with all your friends but like I said that can be done any other day of the year.
Instead of replacing it with Galentine’s Day you can celebrate in the way you want without bashing the original holiday. We should go back to the original traditions of Valentine’s Day and celebrate the day how it is supposed to be celebrated, with the people you love.
