Dear Editor and Ahlahasa staff,
Thank you so much for your wonderful opinions pieces on Homecoming! I very much appreciated Kae Bee’s lovely article that highlighted some of our traditions! Here at ALHS, we are proud to have a student council staff of over 70 students, along with a strong team of eight student council officers. These kids pour in a ton of time and effort to make Homecoming a memorable experience! I would like to thank them for that hard work!
I did want to respond to a few things brought up in Emma Weckwerth’s excellent ‘No Go’ article:
1) If you feel that the work student council does is not interesting, please consider joining our team. One of our biggest goals is to be more inclusive. and to make activities and our school a better place for EVERY student. Sometimes we don’t know how to do that, how to appeal to everyone, so we would love to have more representation from all kinds of students. Please think about joining our team and helping us fix the problems you see! If you want to join us, please reach out to me or any student council member for more info!
2) If the cost of anything is ever too much, puts too much stress on you or your family, please reach out to your counselor, social worker, or a teacher and let them know. We never want cost to hold students back from participating in the fun. Emma brings up a good point that these events can be expensive, and her article helped us realize that we, student council, need to do more to publicize the things we can do to help offset cost. Admission to events can always be covered if money is an issue, and our school also has a huge closet of formal dresses and men’s formal attire that students can wear for dances. Our main goal is fun, so we will try to do whatever we can to support students in making that goal a reality.
Thank you Emma for reminding us to advocate for our students and better-publicize our resources. Thank you Kae for showing the positives of Homecoming.
As the Student Council advisor and an Ahlahasa alumnus, I am proud of the work our students are doing and I am still proud to be a Tiger!
