“Smile” was one of the most talked about movies of 2022. The story follows a therapist getting this smile curse after one of her patients that has this curse dies in front of her. The curse haunts her and causes her to hallucinate before eventually killing her to make her pass on the curse. The movie ends on a cliffhanger that lets you know that a sequel is on its way.
The smile curse is something that affects your brain after someone with the curse dies in front of you. It feeds off of trauma and makes you see things till it eventually takes over you and kills you in front of someone else to pass on this curse. Throughout the two movies you can see that it’s basically impossible to rid of this curse; some found loopholes but no matter what someone still ends up with it.
Now in 2024, they released “Smile 2”. This story follows a singer named Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) who’s just about to go on a world tour for her new music releases but gets the smile curse from one of her friends, who we get to watch get the curse in the beginning of the movie. Throughout the movie, Skye’s mental health dwindles and she spirals into madness as she tries to pick out what’s real and what’s only in her head. Near the end she tries to get rid of it, only to find out that she can’t and her mind was playing tricks on her. This movie gives viewers false hope and deceives them countless times to keep everyone on the edge of their seats.
The storyline of someone in the public eye having this curse makes it much more engaging and entertaining than the first one. The twists in the story are perfect and come when you least expect it. All of the scares are a step up from the first “Smile” movie.
