Albert Lea High School introduced Senior Privilege on Aug. 26. Now that this has been introduced for weeks, Principal Chris Dibble has some updates.
“We’re going pretty well,” said Dibble but there is one issue that needs to be addressed. “[Some] people haven’t turned in their parent permission form yet.”
The issue is that the seniors are still leaving campus without the form being turned in which is causing the office to spend time looking up which students have permission.
There are also some technology issues that he wants to solve.
“I’d like to get my Ipads up and running, but I’m waiting for a better WiFi access point,” said Dibble.
“Usually there’s sort of a line, but there’s multiple papers and multiple pens so it goes by fast,” said senior Aryah Hansen.
Senior Privilege not only impacts the school, but the community is supporting the change too.
“I know that Qdoba is working with some seniors to get a deal, so they can just get in and out quickly and for cheap,” said Dibble. Qdoba is thinking about offering ALHS student meals that include a burrito, drink, and chips and salsa. There would be three options of pre-made meals at a discounted price. Students can choose between a chicken, veggie or steak burrito with white rice, lettuce, and cheese . Meals would cost between $8-9. “I foresee more of that happening as the companies know people are coming out.”
Seniors are happy to have options and relax.
“Sometimes the school environment is just too much for people so I think it’s a good way to just debrief,” said Hansen. “I can go home and I can eat lunch and get my homework done.”
