Many people want to become a singer when they grow up and Junior Mia Thompson is no exception. Thompson has been singing since she was a little kid with her mom in the car.
Now she has won a talent contest at the Minnesota State Fair for singing. The song she performed was “Cowboy Casanova” by Carrie Underwood.
Thompson loves to perform and being on stage feels natural.
“It’s nerve-wracking to be up on stage,” said Thompson. “But once on stage, I feel like I’m supposed to be up there. It feels comfortable.”
She talks about her biggest inspirations being her mother and the country singer Carrie Underwood.
“Carrie Underwood inspired me a lot,” said Thompson. “She’s such an amazing singer and she also sang at her own county fair when she was in high school. My mom inspired me too because she is a very good singer.”
Thompson admits that she was feeling confident during the first round, but she wasn’t so self-assured about performing later.
“I had doubts singing the second time,” said Thompson. “I knew the judging was based on a variety of entertainment performances which didn’t include the genre I was singing.”
She didn’t need to worry because she won the contest. She loves singing and wants to follow her passion by pursuing a career in it.
“I would love to be a country singer,” said Thompson.
