This year’s summer Olympics are heading to Paris, France. The Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The Olympic games started more than 3,000 years ago. The first games were held in 1896 in Athens, Greece. The Olympics are important because they create national pride.
With 2,985 medals to be exact, the United States holds the place for most medals won in history of the Olympics. There are many great sports participating such as archery, basketball, canoe, badminton and many more. My all time favorite sport is football or soccer as Americans say. I am excited to watch France vs USA in Marseille. Football/soccer is the most popular sport in the world, however it’s not in the Olympics. The most popular sport in The Olympics is swimming, track and field coming in close.
The athlete with the most olympic medals is Michael Phelps with 28 medals. In my opinion, swimming became more popular because of Michael Phelps. Michael Phelps opened a gate to the new generation of swimmers and swimming. Greece will lead the Parade of Nations, as they are the ones who started it. I loved the Beijing 2008 opening ceremony. The drums were my favorite part of the ceremony. It’s really impressive how they were all in sync especially with a big crowd of people. The Olympics opening ceremonies are alway what I look forward to the most. It brings out excitement and thrill. This year’s Olympics opening ceremony will take place on the Seine River in boats. They’re floating all the athletes on boats.
The swimming events will take place in the Seine River. The Seine River hasn’t been cleaned and there is no plan B.. The Summer Olympics are fun to watch, but I personally love the Winter Olympics. Winter Olympics is what I grew up with so it’s natural for me to love it. I especially love figure skating. Figure skating is pleasing to watch. The way they glide on the ice and do amazing tricks is amazing. My favorite figure skaters are Yuna Kim from the Korean team and Yuzuru Hanyu from Japan. Yuna Kim retired in 2014 and Yuzuru Hanyu retired in 2022. The Winter Olympics will be held Feb. 6-22 of 2026. Even if you’re not a big sports fan, I think watching the Olympics is a good experience.
