Sculpting, for sophomore Janely Perez Tuxpan, is her favorite art form. She likes to create things in 3-D rather than 2-D.
“It’s just something I like to do for a hobby,” Tuxpan said, stating that she doesn’t have intentions of going to school for art.
Outside of sculpting, Tuxpan learned how to make a yarn bowl.
“It’s these coils that we would wrap and wrap and build it into a bowl,” Tuxpan said, saying that her yarn bowl was hand picked to be on display at the Albert Lea Art Center.
She is proud of this accomplishment and will always go back to sculpting as her favorite hobby. But it does have its challenges. Sculpting is messy.
“Sometimes it can get messy and difficult,” she said. “It doesn’t always come out how you want it. I just take it apart and try it again to get it how I want it.”
Despite making mistakes Tuxpan said, “I’m always learning new techniques in art and it challenges me to try new things. Which is why I enjoy taking the art classes because they teach me a lot of new things.”
