On March 28, the National Honor Society and the NHS coordinator, Carissa Blizzard, sponsored the second blood drive this school year through the Red Cross. Students signed up during lunches for an appointment time to come down to the gym and donate blood. When they come down for their appointment they will check in with volunteers from the National Honor Society. After donating blood, helpers were there to assist students with snacks and beverages before returning back to class.
“There are a lot of bad things in the world, so if you can do one good thing… you could save a life,” said Blizzard.
The whole process takes an hour and there is even support if you have a fear of needles. If you are nervous about the environment or donating, a volunteer or worker will come sit with you through your appointment and talk with you.
“Every time you give blood you help three people,” said Blizzard.
With a national shortage of blood it is important to give back if you are able. If you missed this blood drive, contact the Red Cross and they will help find upcoming drives near you.
