For angler and Sophomore Taison Salle, being on the Albert Lea Anglers team requires varied demands and team work. For Salle there isn’t much to balance, he loves it all. Salle started fishing when he was six years old after his grandpa took him once.
“When I got my first fish I was just so excited and just wanted to do it again,” Salle said about the experience.
One of Salle’s favorite memories is when he went up North to Lake Mille Lacs near Brainerd where he caught a walleye, around 25 inches. Salle said it’s one of his favorite memories because “that was the biggest walleye I ever caught up North.”
But in general it was not the biggest fish he had ever caught.
“The biggest fish I ever caught is a 42-pound greater amberjack.
Usually, Salle fishes on Fountain Lake. He doesn’t go far from home but when he does he travels to Marco Island, Florida. Saying that it’s different from home.
“Just salt water fish, like cobia, black fin tuna and red snappers in Florida,” he said.
Fishing tournaments are a big deal to Salle but it’s also different from other sports.
“I mean you’re not throwing a ball specifically in the water, you’re throwing something that can attract other live things that you have a chance to see since they’re in the water,” he said.
Scoring is different in fishing too. It is judged in many different ways: weight, length, etc.
Salle loves fishing but it can be dangerous including getting hooked. Fish at your own risk.
