Katie Cords has been the secretary to the principal at the high school for three years but has been working in the office for five years.
“I multitask and do a little bit of a lot of different things,” Cords explained.
Cords goes through her day at the school saying, “a normal day would be finding subs, making sure classrooms have a substitute lined up. I do vouchers, when you’re coming in and going out of the different departments. I do payroll and I take care of a lot of the senior stuff.”
All of these little things may not be thought about by students, but they are things that need to get done to make the school function on a day-to-day basis.
With so many tasks and interruptions throughout the day, something that Cords likes to do is keep organized.
“Write down to do lists,” she said is her first strategy for organization. “Being able to check off as many as I can, not necessarily in order but prioritizing the important things.”
Cords believes ALHS isn’t like other schools.
“I went to a conference this summer and after talking to the other principal secretaries.. how much support I get from our admin team that some other schools don’t receive,” said Cords.
Another aspect of her job that Cords appreciates is all the little things the school does.
“I love going out and cheering on in the hallways for state qualifiers or student accomplishments,” she said.
Although she has had some hard and busy days, Cords expressed fondness for her coworkers and job.
“I love what I do. I love my job and all the multitasking that I do,” she said. “And the team here is awesome.”
