Ever wonder why someone would choose to pursue a career in education, especially in the English department? For Angelina Welch, an English teacher at ALHS, her love for English started when she was young.
“Growing up my dad was a really big reader,” said Welch. “We would create an environment surrounded around reading that I really loved.”
As Welch grew up, she cultivated a love for storytelling and reading. She also wanted to teach English as a way to encourage students to read books. She believes that reading is important because it helps build empathy and learn different perspectives.
“When you read, you’re forced to see the world from a different person’s perspective,” said Welch. “I think there is so much value in that because that’s when you can actually grow as a human being.”
