Chess: a battle of wits and skill or maybe it’s just a fun game to play in your free time. However you view chess, you should join chess club. Whether you’ve never played chess before in your life, or if you’re someone who plays chess every day, you’re welcome to stop by. The club is run by Mr. Corey-Gruenes, who started the club because a previous student of his really enjoyed chess and wanted to start a club at the high school.
All sorts of students show up to chess club. One of the recurring members, Clara Thompson said, “I enjoy the overall environment of chess club. I feel like it’s very relaxed and comfortable.”
A few other students offer the same reasons for coming to chess club. Another member, Vivian Nguyen said, “It’s a great environment. Everyone there is pretty fun to hang out with.”
While some come to play with friends and relax, other students come to chess club to focus on improving their skills.
Noah Anderson said he goes to chess because “The game is mentally stimulating, very hard.”
If you ever feel like joining a club to either play some games or to stimulate chess club meets every Thursday in E209 from 3:00-4:30.
