Taylor Swift is a name recognized around the world. She is an award-winning singer, songwriter and producer. She has 10 studio albums. The first, “Taylor Swift”, was released in 2006 and her latest, “Midnights”, was released in 2022. Her albums include other albums include “Fearless” (2008), “Speak Now” (2010), “Red” (2012), “1989” (2014), “Reputation” (2017), “Lover” (2019), “Folklore” (2020), “Evermore” (2020) and “Midnights” (2022).
Up until her album “Lover”, Swift did not own her music. When she started making music Taylor signed with Big Machine Records. She wrote her own songs so she owned the lyrics and the music of the songs, however, the record company owned the master recordings which means they got a bigger portion of her music.
Scooter Braun, a music manager for people such as Justin Beiber and Ariana Grande, bought the master recordings of all of Swift’s first six albums for $300 million. Swift found out this information along with the public. She had no idea the master recordings of her songs were even for sale.
Swift came up with a plan called ‘Taylor’s Version’ where she is slowly re-recording her first six albums. When searching for her music fans know to include “Taylor’s version” so Scooter Braun is not making money off fans streaming her songs.
When Swift rereleases her albums she does things to make her fans excited about these new releases like making new music videos and adding tracks from the vault. These are never before heard songs that did not make the album on the first cut.
So far Swift has re-released “Fearless Taylor’s Version”, “Red Taylor’s Version”, and “Speak Now Taylor’s Version”. She has also announced the release date for “1989 Taylor’s Version” on October 27, 2023.
After she re-relases this album, Swift will only have two more albums to take back: “Reputation Taylor’s Version” and “Taylor Swift Taylor’s Version”. When she will re-release these is a mystery to the world, but millions of people are anticipating these announcements.
