During the Marion Ross Theater production of “Cinderella”, I played a townsperson and a horse. I was a late addition to the show, but everyone was helpful and kind. I missed out of the first month or so of practice, and everyone worked hard to get me caught up and help teach me what to do, where to go, how to move, ect…
I got to reconnect with my friends and make new friends. I’m gonna miss all of the people I met but I’m excited for the next shows to come now that I’ve made these bonds. One of my favorite things from the show was being backstage with the cast. During the songs, backstage we would make up dances to them, even the opening songs to each act. Some of the songs we most commonly danced to were “In My Own Little Corner”, “A Lovely Night”, “Impossible”, and the introduction to Act 2.
The scene changes were fun as well. We all managed to get good at them in the end. The ballroom scene was another personal favorite of mine. It was fun learning the choreography and getting used to performing it. Dancing in the ball gowns was also fun. I loved seeing the show progress and seeing everyone get comfortable in their roles.
In “Cinderella”, there were lots of quick changes and many clothing changes but we all worked hard to make them go as quickly and smoothly as possible. We went to Applebees twice as a cast and we had a cast party after the last show. I believe that doing things like these group effort activities really helps make cast bonds strong.
I’m so glad to have been a part of the show and I hope this inspires at least one person to go and try out even if you are afraid. It isn’t as scary as it seems- trust me.
