Degrassi Next Class
Canada’s longest running drama series, “Degrassi”, which has entertained television audiences for 35 years, has made the move to Netflix with its latest installment, “Degrassi Next Class.”
“Degrassi Next Class” follows the lives of several Canadian teens as they go through life at their school, Degrassi Community School.
Continuing its reputation of never shying away from controversy, the new series tackles difficult topics that teens may relate to such as; mental illness, teenage sexuality and sexual orientation, religion, racism, abortion and the current refugee crisis with the addition of two new characters in the third season who are refugees from Syria.
This series has its moments where I rolled my eyes at how “cheesy” a scene was, but overall, I found this show to be highly addictive with plenty of drama and crazy plot twists. Along with hours of entertainment, this series has important messages for its viewers along has a diverse cast which allows for representation for all types of people.
I give this show 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend this series to anyone looking for a show with lovable characters, relatable issues and intense drama along with light-hearted comedy.
