Solo and Ensemble
Each January, musicians from Albert Lea High School travel to Lakeville South High School to compete in the regional Solo and Ensemble contest. This year the contest was held on Jan. 21.
After arriving at the high school, students prepare to perform their vocal or instrumental solos, duets or ensembles for a judge. Judges watch the performance and give critique as well as a score.
Senior Logan Peterson has participated in Solo and Ensemble contest for the past two years.
Previously, Peterson has not done as well as he had hoped.
“I did not prepare at all,” Peterson said.
This year Peterson had put time and preparation into his performances and looked forward to the contest.
“It’s a lot of fun to just go into random rooms and hear other people do their stuff,” Peterson said.
He also looks forward to receiving feedback from the judges.
“I like knowing where my weaknesses are and what I can improve on,” Peterson added.
Peterson performed a marimba solo, apiece titled “Malletrix” by Jared Spears.
