Spring Play Cast Announced
March 4, 2016
As winter nears its end, preparations for the ALHS production of “Diary of Anne Frank” are underway as the cast list was posted this afternoon. A cluster of anxious students hovered around a sheet of paper taped on the office window. Some gave cheers of delight as they found their name typed out on the paper.
In past years, the spring play has been a lighthearted comedy, such as “You Can’t Take it With You” (2014) or “The Matchmaker” (2015), this year the theater department will be bringing the true story of Anne Frank to life.
Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl during WWII who lived in hiding in a secret annex in Amsterdam along with seven other people to avoid the Nazis. After two years of secrecy they were sadly discovered and sent to their deaths in concentration camps. Only Anne’s father, Otto Frank survived.
Through reading Anne’s diary, Otto learned of a girl much different than the one he knew. He learned that Anne wanted to be a writer or a journalist, but most importantly that Anne wanted her diary published as a novel. On June 25, 1947 “The Secret Annex” was published, allowing thousands of readers to step into the annex.
