Jeans And Genes
February 18, 2016
There are many differences between men and women, our physical bodies, why and how our minds develop, etc. There are also plenty of similarities. Jeans are not one of them.
If you have ever been doing laundry and happen look at your sister’s jeans (for those of you who have sisters)? You would usually see a size on the tag, a number ranging from a double zero up to but not limited to an 18. Look at a pair of your dad’s pants and see something totally different. Men’s pants are usually sized by waist and inseam, with a pair of numbers based as a size.
Women’s pants are sized pretty much however the company wants.
I have just really noticed and been bothered by this in the past two years or so. There is always the stigma of women always taking hours to shop, but the real-life problem is that we actually need to take the time to try on everything to make sure it even FITS.
A few of my male friends, including my boyfriend, agreed girls sizes are just plain weird and dumb. They can walk into a store, look at the measurement, “OK cool, a 32, 40. That’s me,” and be done. I have to be in the dressing room for 20 minutes seeing if I’m going to fit into a 10, 12 or a 14. It’s the luck of the draw.
And then there’s the fit of the jean. Oh lord. A high-rise, a skinny, a straight leg, a low-rise extra-ultra skinny jegging. It is ridiculous. And do not get me started on the lack of pockets in girls pants. My boyfriend can fit his entire calculator and wallet in one pocket, while sometimes I can hope to fit two quarters in mine.
But what are the underlying problems that have been embedded into our society with these odd things and why? I don’t know the answer to that. At all. Is it to try and make women and girls feel bad because they don’t have a smaller size? Is it capitalism? I do not know, my friends. I get the pockets thing because then companies can sell women purses, but the whole sizing thing. It is just plain unnecessary and a hassle.
I would also love a pair of good-fitting women’s jeans that uses measurements so hit me up if you know one.
