Penny by penny, classes strive to win first place in a competition to raise money, but a rival from another class comes by, and brings their score from 100, back to 0.
Advisory classes at Albert Lea High School (ALHS) are currently competing in a Penny War to raise money for Feed My Starving Children in the hopes of raising enough money to feed 100,000 children across 70 countries. Each advisory at ALHS is participating in this Penny War.
A Penny War is a special type of fundraiser, where using pennies, students can earn their class positive points in the competition. However, if a different advisory has a student place either a bill or a coin besides the penny, those count as negative points.
ALHS has done Penny Wars in the past, but this year Jacob Jensen a sophomore at ALHS will be using the money to help in his mission to help starving children. Penny Wars is a great way to fundraise for schools by using skills like strategy, competition, and just fun.
In past years, Penny Wars were held during lunch hours, and it was divided into grades and included teachers, unlike this year where it will be done during advisory and will be done in plastic bags instead of big buckets.
Another day another…Penny
