One of the least recognized groups working hard in the high school is the Tech Crew. This is the group of students led by English teacher Mr. Corey-Gruenes. Under his supervision the students on the Tech Crew coordinate the lights and sounds for all performances in the auditorium, including plays, band and choir concerts, civic music events, teachers meetings and other presentations.
Can you imagine being in control of 16 different microphones and having to know when to turn them on and off at the right cues? That is the average amount of microphones for the school fall musicals.
“It’s a lot of work but it is fun to do,“ said junior Laura Piper.
Piper has been on the Tech Crew since her freshman year. When asked about her least favorite part of Tech Crew she said “I don’t like having to deal with replacing light bulbs, only because they explode if you touch them.” While the job can get dangerous, it isn’t volunteer work. The Tech Crew members get paid for every event they work.
On top of that the Tech Crew usually gets to work closely with the directors and artists who perform in the high school. For example, in the past few weeks, a few members of the Tech Crew got to meet and talk with “Street Corner Symphony,” an a capella group who were runner-ups on the show the “Sing-Off.”
So while they may be a little under appreciated, just remember how much work they do to help out.
