Hard rock outfit Asking Alexandria is well known in the metal world for its screamed vocals and melodic singing, while their guitars deliver a pulse-raising breakdown and their drums go off on their own crazy adventure.
Not this time. This time they’re ringing in New Year by combining their known metal sound and the new trend of “dubstep” into one on their latest releases, “Stepped Up & Scratched.”
This album is named after their debut album “Stand Up & Scream” for the reason that it features remixed songs from both their debut and their sophomore full-length album “Reckless & Relentless.”
This may seem like an unusual idea for an album to many people but Asking Alexandria are no strangers to doing an “out of the box” production. The band has made an 8-song album that was their own version of their favorite classic rock influences such as “Youth Gone Wild” by Skid Row and were featured on the “Punk Goes Pop 3” compilation album playing “Right Now (Na Na Na)” by Akon.
The band thinks that the main fan base of this record will be the people that already listen to them and the few people that will stumble upon them after listening to a song that has a related sound to one of their remixed songs.
Asking Alexandria has also said that they are not only doing this to try to become more popular in the music scene, but are doing this because they love to listen to dubstep and think it
would be cool to create their own.
“We all have our own sort of music style we love listening to’ but we all love to listen to dubstep,” Lead vocalist Danny Worsnop said during an interview with Alternative Press magazine in October.
The album has been in the works since shortly after when “Reckless & Relentless” was released last March.
Asking Alexandria has already been pushing their remixed songs to the ears of everyone by playing them live during many dates of Vans’ Warped Tour during the summer. They have also made music videos for one of their first songs “Not The American Average” and creating two more videos for their new single “To The Stage” and their remixed versions of “Another Bottle Down”, “Reckless & Relentless” and “A Lesson Never Learned.”
The band has said on their Facebook page and their official website that they will be making a music video for the remixed version of “I Was Once Possibly, Maybe, Perhaps a Cowboy King” but have not set a date that fans will be able to see that yet.
“Stepped Up & Scratched” hit stores and the online market this December. Be sure to check it out and grab your copy whether you are a die-hard Asking Alexandria fan or someone who is just crazy for new dubstep entering their ears. Who knows, you may want it to stay in your ears.
